Those Final Moments (April 16, 2016)

Empty words
From a hollowed out
Soul.

Beyond
Its best before date
For human interaction.

Who has seen
Too much violence
For a lifetime.

Walking
Through life
Like a zombie.

Just seeking
That final moment
Of true peace.

Where pain ends
And the flashbacks
Disappear.

Before taking
That final breathe
Of good-bye.

Contented
The troubled soul
Has found absolution.

I love it when the words lead the way, perhaps when we are writing with our deeper selves. I well know that search for peace, and hope the narrator finds it decades before that final breath. Beautifully penned.

Very strong, very painful indeed.

Sometimes the remains is to have just a future and no past... hope for less of flashbacks...

The pain and agony in this is so strong.

It is wonderful when absolution can be found as your poem well describes. Thanks. K.

A nice progression from pain to peace.

That second stanza is such a unique representation of feeling....never heard it voiced quite that way before and I appreciate that description....it's authentic and unusual but really hits as relatable.
