Change?
When
It's a natural part
Of life
Around us.
Like the ugliest caterpillar
Who metamorphosis
In the prettiest butterfly.
Spreading beauty
With each flap
Of its wings.
Not like
I'm asking you
To transform
Into something
That you are not.
Rather
Share the journey
Moving forward
As one.
Growing
And loving
The true me
That emerges
From this cocoon.

Author's note: Not sure, why I wrote this poem but felt the need, to do so. Hence, the title, for the poem.

I find it interesting too... change is a subject that most of us fear, but I have a feeling it has to do with the difference of being changed or change yourself...
I think, you may be right, Bjorn, as it's outside of most people's comfort zone
Thought provoking poem..
Change is inevitable and we take on many different "cloaks" as our lives evolve. The trick is to embrace and accept ourselves along the way. Your last stanza says it all. Beautifully done, thanks for sharing!
Thank you, Sanaa, for your kind words. Maybe, I was channelling some of yesterday's energy, for International Woman Day.
Your welcome, and thank you, Gayle. Sadly, for many people embracing and accepting change, is the one thing, they can't do.
For sure Therisa - with you all the way on this. A direct and effective piece.
I like the idea of wanting someone to transform into whom they really are.
People do fear change...embracing the process comes from knowledge and understanding..and empathy.
What you ask/require can be difficult for many to honor. Interpersonal relationships should be reliant on good communication, honesty & openness & acceptance--but the truth is (every other marriage [50%] ends in divorce) most people are not trained or willing to work that hard.
Change is indeed part of our lives ~ It's how we embrace it or not, that makes a difference ~
Sadly, Glenn, I have learnt this, the hard way, with my mom, when I accidentally "outed" myself, to her, on July 1, 2006. She still hasn't accepted me, as her daughter, even though, I got her information for support groups, near her.
Sadly, Thotpurge, ignorance and fear, seems to rule the world, at the moment.
Thank you, Scott, for the support.
It's not an easy road, to walk upon, given society reluctant to accept those, who are different, from the accepted norm.
Grace, do you think, we'll be able move beyond our superficial need to pigeonhole everyone, into narrow boxes, without allowing them, any room to grow and change?
It's the fear of loss of control, I suppose, which makes people so reluctant to embrace change. But you can either be part of the change or let it steamroller over you, right? It will still happen.
Yet, control is, a fleeting illusion, which we tell ourselves that we have, over life. When, in reality, we're riding the crest of a wave of chaos, that may collapse, at any moment of time.
I don't know why we (the world) fears change. Most of the time things change for the better at least after a few attempts. It's a good message moving forward as one.
One constant in the world is change.Fear it or flow with it.
Thank you, Bekkie. Think, our need to fear change, is linked, to the early humanity, where change meant danger, and death, to the tribe and clan.
Thank you, Paul. Those, who fear, often let their anger rule them, in ignorance.
