Daughter’s sins
Pass from mother
Both struggling
With mental illness
And abusive past.
Shame of silence
Hides their relationship
Sealing within
Soul’s pain
That haunts them.
Like two solitudes
Through life
Never understanding
Each other needs
And wants.
Their experiences
Similar yet different.
Learning disabilities
One discovered
Other not.
Shaping personality
And self-identity
To others.
As mother
Overzealously
Protects daughter
Smothering growth.
Horrified
Daughter’s rebellion
Taken personally
As direct attack.
Having failed
Her parental responsibility
With child’s rejection.
