Nothing Lasts Forever (June 25, 2019)

Once more
Pride over
For another year.

Unease fills me
Dark clouds
Hovering overhead.

Knowing
How lucky
I am.

Leaving abusive past
And violence
Behind.

But reality is
So finicky.

What's given yesterday
Easily stripped today
Or tomorrow.

Blink of an eye
Shouted slurs
Promising violence.

Questioning
Personal safety
Like never before
As tears fall.

Moving Beyond Barriers (January 16, 2018)

Can feel it
Coursing through
My body.

Like a nervous energy.
Caustically
It burns my body
With its poisonous touch.

Turning strong muscles
Into piles of rubbery waste
Unable to move.

Battles thought won
Are being fought
Once more
For my mortal soul.

What once was
Taken for granted
And never questioned.

Now
A distant shore
Just beyond
My reach.

Moving steadily downwards
Into the prison cell
My apartment has become.

As anger
And self-hatred flows
Through my body
Like blood.

Dissolving the facade
That the world sees
Upon me.

As the tears flow
Both visible
And invisible
Down my face.

Lingering
Forever
Lingering.

Author's note: Just how I'm feeling feeling right now, as I struggle with mental illness.

Untitled (January 17, 2018)

I want to
Let these memories go
Liberating myself
From this haunting darkness
On my soul.

As if
My abusive experience
Are the wrong favour
Of the month.

Just because
I wasn't sexually touched
Or raped
With a penile object
By my abusers.

Although
Numerous times
I have been kicked
Deliberately
In the groin area.

With serious intent
To maim me
In a sexual manner
As they view me
A homosexual male.

Never mind
Some feminists view
My abuse
As a male on male
Crime.

And not
A male on female
Crime.

Thus
They discount me
As another whining male
Seeking attention.

Over battered
And seriously injured women
Attacked by men.

Due to the reality
Of the birth defect
Between my legs
They hold over
All transwomen.

Regardless
Of our status
Pre or post-op.

Bleep you
Too
B*tch.

Why Can't I Be You? (August 16, 2012)

Why
Do I have
This need to be
Perfect?

Knowing
No one is.

Yet
It exists.

As
Echoes of my past
Keep resurfacing
In the present.

Haunting
Everything
I do.

A simple task
Like accepting
Or giving a hug
Is a traumatic experience.

As waves of anxiety
Flood my body.

Forcing friends
Or love ones away
Hurting them
By doing so.

While
My face lights up
Like a deer caught
In the headlights.

As my frustration
And anger build up
Internally.

Over my reaction
To their offer
Of support and love.

With each rejection
A part of my soul
Dies.

A Night Like This (October 11, 2011)

Still
Hear your voice
Calling me
"Fucking useless
Piece of shit."

As
Your blows
Rain down
Upon my body.

Although
Thirty-one years
Have past.

As similar dreams
Haunt my troubled soul
With their corrosive
Memory.

Since
The final remnants
Of my mental walls
Collapsed
In August 2007.

Plaguing my existence
Since.

Palette Of Abuse (April 4, 2017)

The blackest of night
I hide away
In my apartment
Spilling red ink
Upon white parchment.

Reliving
Those golden days
Of Summer
Where shame burns
With blue and white flames.

Seeking relief
From the fading
Orche and purple (coloured) bruises
As a blue streak
Erupts from your mouth.

Shattering my rose glasses
With your gray innocence
Before my body browns out
From the pain
And exhaustion.

Knowing
These toxic flashbacks
Are pale echoes
Of a faraway time
And place.

Author's note: A writing exercise, which I am using 3 different colours, for each stanza, without repeating any colour, previously used. Leaving the last stanza, without any reference to any colour.

Not, In God's Name (September 3, 2016)

Hello
My name is
Therisa.

For those
Who don't know
Me.

I am
A transsexual
(Male to female).

Correcting
The physical deformity
Being born
A female soul
Within a male body.

And
An abuse survivor
From family members
And bullies.

Who is
Actively
Seeking help
In healing
These mental wounds.

I know
How easily
It would be.

To surrender
Myself
To the pain.

Ending all
With my suicide.

As I refuse
To grant power
Towards those
Who say:

"Being punished
For my sinful ways
As a trans-lesbian."

Quoting
Various verses
From the New
and Old Testament.

As if
These hateful words
Could magically
Change me.

Haven't you realize
The hatred
You're spreading
As the "Gospel Truth"
To the world
Is morally wrong?

Guess not
As you're too busy
Running away
From your own
Inner daemons.

To realize
This.

Author's note: Earlier, this week, the Peel Board Of Education made a big splash, locally, when it announced all of its secondary school washrooms would become "all-gender", for the start of this school year, on Tuesday (September 5, 2016). For more on this, please click on the link: www.thestar.com/yourtoronto/education/2016/08/31/peel-board-to-include-all-gender-washrooms-in-every-high-school.html

Upon hearing this news report, a person, I know, made the comment, a derisive comment, about women, not being safe, in public washrooms. Never mind, many LGBT+ people have been violently assaulted, in public spaces, thus refuse to use them, as a way of protecting themselves, from harm.

Personally, I don't know of any woman, who can make similar claims, regarding this. In fact, have been made to feel like, I'm inferior or a freak, when I had ask, at a certain coffee shop, for the entry code, to their female washroom, in Toronto's Gay Village. Which, was reluctantly given to me, by one, of its employees. A place, I refuse to go to, again, with my patronage.

Causes Of The Storm (August 5, 2016)

Cold
That pierces
One's soul
To the core.

Draws me
Ever deeper
Into darkness.

Tears cascading
Downwards
From my red eyes.

As the words
Dry up
One letter
At a time.

Leaving behind
A shivered
And burnt out
Soul.

Struggling
To describe
In words.

The emotional
Roller coaster
Am stuck on
With no release.

Moods swing
From one extreme
To another.

Covering me
In a literal black cloud
That never lifts.

Even after
The latest bout
Of depression does.

From a lifetime
Of self-suppression
And self-hatred
From an abusive past.

Told
To keep quiet
About this
By mom

Did so
As a dutiful child
'til my mid-30.

When
My psychic walls
Collapsed
To mental dust.

During
A 26 hour
Panic attack.

Thus
The past 9 years
Been crawling out
Of my own personal Hell.

As wave
After wave
Of repressed memories
Are reawaken
In me.

Author's note: Since November 1974, I have been dealing with PTSD symptoms, after I was electrically burnt, around my mouth, on both sides. Having endured numerous surgeries, to repair the damage done, over the years. Every time, I look, into a mirror, I see traces of the scar tissue, on my right side of my mouth, and have to be, very careful, when eating food, otherwise, I will/have bitten into the scar tissue that lines, both sides of my mouth, with live nerve endings. Even now, almost 42 years later, I still have flashbacks (visual and sensory) of that night, which I have trouble, using a lighter, as the flame, is a trigger, for me.

The following year, I started kindergarten, and my life, when to Hell, literally, as my decade + of schoolyard bullying, began. Ending, at the end of grade 10, when I transferred, to another local high school, in Brampton, Ontario. Still have trouble talking or writing, about this period, in my life. It was, during this period, before the age of 12, I attempted my first suicide. By my twelve birthday, I would make 2 more attempts, on my life, all of them failing, for various reasons, which I won't talk about, right now.

As for my family life, I wish I could erase almost all of my memories, especially those, which revolve around my younger brother. For my earliest memory of him, is the two of us, fighting, at his integration. Wish, I could say, he grew out of this need to hurt me, but I would be lying, to myself and those, who are reading this. As I written, in previous posting, like my "Letters Never Sent" blogs, which are letters, written to my younger self, about a particular time, in my life. My only enter, so far, deals with the summer of 1985, and the Hell, he created for my mom and I. Must warn any who read it, about the graphic violence and abuse, I describe, in it. And yes, Timothy, is my birth name (an Anglicized version of it), given to me, by my parents, in honour, of one of dad's brothers, who choked to death, during an asthmatic attack, in my aunt's arms.
