System Down (August 25, 2014)

Optical illusion
War fought and won
Through the legal
And political systems.

Discrimination
Although illegal
Is fact of life
With a bitter smile.

Ghettoization
By fear
And economic needs
Just out of sight.

Children are cannibalized
Without a second thought
Mental health system
Drowning in numbers.

Hope
A caustic pill
Things will get better.

Author's note: Written during the Ferguson, Mo, civil unrest, as I struggled, with my second bout of severe agoraphobia, costing me, the summer of 2014.

This is very tough to read. As was Ferguson tough to see over and over and repeating itself. Words on paper help affirm....I am so glad you are with dVerse. :)

I sometimes that the what we read and what happens around us add to the depression... I need some really good news, something joyful that I haven't seen in years... and still I know there are many things that are getting better.

Thank you, Lillian, I do hope this poem hasn't open any unhealed wounds, for you. Never my intention, for any of my poems to hurt others, with my words.

You give a strong voice and point out the terrible things that take place in our world. Powerfully penned.

Goodness, not surprised that world and personal events converge to make things nearly impossible for us at times... sorry to hear you went through that.

I hope your journey becomes better ~ Some days are just too sad and depressing for me if I have read all the news lately ~

Yours is a powerful voice, Therisa, and putting it out there, breaking that optical illusion, helps us see that hope is one great thing that is not an illusion. Thanks for sharing and I hope to see more of your world.

I hear you, Grace, especially, after the tragic event that happened this week, in London, England.

The world is not fair. No one really said it should be I guess. Some f@cked up shit going on everywhere. So we must write, we must hope, we must strive and we must believe and hope that we can and will turn things around.
