Gathering Darkness (October 16, 2019)

Sea of chaos
Where answers exist
And questions
Are left unspoken.

Blurring
Knowledge
And ignorance.

People drown
In information tsunamis
Crying out
For non-existing order.

Hubris
Crowned loyalty
By the masses.

Regardless
Denying truths.

Polarizing events
Once consider
Sacrosanct.

Measured
By the death toll
Of systemic collapses
To society's most vulnerable.

Dystopian beliefs
Like a metastasized cancer
Spread throughout politics
Tainting the soul.

As graveyards grow
Row by row.

Janus, Would Be Proud (May 26, 2016)

They call
Themselves
Christians.

Instead of
Preaching love
As their religion
Espouses.

Pure hatred
Oozes
From their frozen hearts
Like oil
From the ground.

Sitting
So smugly
In their Sunday best
Upon the church pew.

Praying
For my soul's
Salvation.

Fake smiles
Plastered
Upon their faces.

Like a poster
Wrapped around
The telephone pole.

Advertising
The latest release
From a local indie
Group.

Hate to think
How they would
Treat me.

If I had reacted
In a disrespectful manner
To them.

Guess
They don't read
Their own religious text
In having forgotten
The golden rule.

Author's note: Often wonder, how someone, who claims, to speak, in the Voice of God, can be filled, with such hatred, like many socially conservative Christians. Last time, I looked, the Christian bible wasn't filled with ignorance or pure hatred. Although, I must say, I'm not a Christian, nor pretend, to be one. Had too much religious hatred, forced down my throat, for being, a trans-lesbian.

Taking The High Road (March 6, 2016)

Excuse me
Do you feel threaten
By my very existence?

In which
I challenge
Your perception
To the core
Of your soul?

As
You find yourself
Wanting
In all areas.

Hence
Your negative response
To my poetry.

Please
Come back.

After
You've grown up
And educated
Yourself.

Maybe
We can talk.

Until then
Good-bye.

Author's note: This is, my response to, an ignorance comment, about my mental health, in calling, my poem, "The Good-bye", sign of a disturbed mind. I had thought of responding back, with a sarcastic comment, but this person wouldn't understand, what I was saying, to them, thus, simply deleted their comment.

Feeling, momentarily depressed, doesn't mean, I am suicidal or even thinking of attempting it. Over the years, I have found that some of my more emotional poetry is written, during down periods, like this. I wonder, what this person would say, about Vincent Van Gogh, or Fyodor Dostoyevsky, who both suffered from mental illness, but considered masters, of their chosen art form.

Breaking The Ice (February 28, 2016)

www.lourenco.co.za

Seen
That look
Upon your face
As you learn
I'm trans.

One
Of shock
And surprise.

Unconsciously
You move
A step or two
Backwards.

As if
Being associated
With me
Will condemn you
To eternal Hell
For your soul.

Forgetting
For many people
I am
Their first exposure
To a trans-person.

Although
You have seen
Our stories
And struggles
On the TV.

Or
At the movies.

Often
We're portrayed
By cis-actors/actresses
Like we don't pass
For our chosen gender.

But
If you're willing
To set aside
Your religious
And cultural stereotypes.

And share
With me
A mug or two
Of Rooibos tea
We can talk.

Author's note: My doctor's office, is one of many satellite offices, for one of Toronto's major teaching hospitals, thus, I'm usually, the first trans-person, these interns have seen, as a patient. The medical schools don't have to offer any seminars on trans health, and usually, only one session of 2-4 hours, for gay and lesbian health. Given the long history of transphobia, within the medical community, it isn't surprising, when one looks at the facts. As gender dysphoria, was once considered, by the psychiatric community, as a mental illness.
