Valley Girl To The Max (February 23, 2008)

Listen here
You damn virus
You're suppose
To left my body.

Two weeks is
More than enough time
To move it.

Like last week
Waking up
With a sore throat
Is like.
So
Yesterday news
Mon.

I want today's news
And you're not it.

So
Um
Isn't it like
Time for you
To get your bags packed
And leave
Pronto like.

Oh no
I must be sick
I'm writing
In Valley Girl mode.

Does anyone
Still speak
Like this
Totally rad way?

Shivering
At the thought.

Author's note: Another poem taken, from my poetic morgue. About 12 days ago, I noticed the first signs of a chest infection that still sticking around me, refusing to leave, like a good guest does, when asked to. Somehow, I remembered this poem, and so, am now sharing it, with a wider audience. And yes, I do remember watching the movie and the TV series, Clueless.

I hope the shivering is not fever. I love the idea of talking to sickness and making it fun with an accent. Gonna try or at least think more about that regarding my Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

I like the whimsical tone, especially the ending!

Had a fever, for a few days, but it's gone. Just waiting on my chest to clear out, now, Colleen. Normally, my poems are rather dark, as I write about living with various mental illnesses, I live with, like chronic depression, various anxiety disorders, PTSD and agoraphobia. Wish you, best of luck, with your experiment, Colleen. If anything, it will help, in giving voice, to some of frustrations and anger, to CFS.

Thank you, Timoteo, been a long while, since I have looked at this poem.

Theresa, I think the REAL Valley girls still talk this way. We will attend a memorial service Saturday for our daughter's school friend who died of breast cancer complications. She was living in California, she may have been having a similar lament in her last few days, hospitalized. Thank you for writing this.

I enjoy the humourous tone in this piece. It makes me smile. Love the Valley Girl talk.

Thanks, Sherry. Although, I wonder, is this another sign of the approaching apocalypse? Me, humour.

Valley Girls - yes, I'm old (young :) enough to remember ... at least the flue comes and goes quickly (usually) .. a cold virus is a bit like Bill Murray in "What About Bob?"

That's a good way of keeping in control, talk to your virus, especially one that lingers.

Thank you, Jim, and sorry, for your daughter friend's family. Cancer is, never an easy way to go, regardless, of one's age. Having lost members on both sides, of my family tree, to this dread disease.

Never have seen "What About Bob", the trailer never interested me. Flues and colds are never easy, for me, as they tend to settle, in my chest, and become infections, there.

Been struggling today, to write anything, as my mind has been wandering, when I remembered this: Willow, from "Buffy, The Vampire Slayer", is the most positive portrayal of a Valley Girl, I can remember, in a TV series.

Thank you, Marian. Almost like, I was reliving part of my high years, during the latter half of the 1980s. Never did really fit in, more of the outsider table, in the cafe. Sigh.
