My Alchemy Project (March 4, 2016)

www.history.com

Before me
A lump of virgin clay
Lays.

Unsure
How to express
Those images
That are trapped
Within my mind.

Just like
A blank page
In my writing book
Awaiting
My creative touch.

As my fingers
Move over
Its surface.

Mixing
The various media
Into a solution.

In my symbolic search
For the philosopher's stone
Of expression
And release.

In giving
Physical form
To the words
Of my poems.

Unleashing
My true artistic vision
Beyond
The written word.

Author's note: Since January 2014, I have been attending an art studio, which offers an artistic program, for people with mental illness, socially isolated, and those, who are recovering from addictions. It's operated, jointly, by a local hospital and a NGO.

Sadly, I completed my first sculpture, and am awaiting, for it, to dry out, before it can be fired for the first time, and painted, before the second and final firing. Mostly, as the result, from my own battle, with anxiety and agoraphobia.

Love how you have the possibility to expand your artistry to other arts... words have the advantage of immediacy though...

Congratulations on moving forward despite your difficulties. I was plagued with severe panic and agoraphobia and blogging has been the seal on years of work to improve my health. You write very well and I'm glad I found your blog through dVerse!

Ah, I see you are creative not only with poetry but in sculpture too. I like the idea of giving 'physical form' to the words of your poems. I hope when this sculpture is totally finished you will take a photo and share it in your blog, along with a poem accompaniment.

Oh, art is SO like poetry. I understand - I have a number of my daughter's sculptures (she's an artist) and they are very poetic to me...

So many times I have been so blank and clueless too - love this.

Welcome to OLN - have a good weekend.

You are powerful........in your life, in your sculpture making, in your word making. You are creative.....in your life, in your sculpture making, in your word making.
You are courageous....in your life, in your sculpture making, and in your word sharing here. Thank you for your post......heartfelt.

True, Bjorn, but the sculpture is, an extension of the poem, I have wrote, earlier.

Thank you, Carol, for your kind and encouraging words.

Thank you, Mary, for your kind words. I was hoping to have this sculpture done earlier, as it's part of my annual poem, for the Day of Trans-Remembrance (November 20th). I will post it, either, in Poet United or here, in dVerse.

Thank you, Margaret. Am hoping, nothing goes wrong, from here, until the final firing.

Thank you, Lillian, but I am, still learning my way, around poetry and clay sculpturing.

Thank you, Sanaa, for your kind words.

Working in clay is such a wonderful, sensual form of artistic expression and a powerful tool for healing, I would guess. When I worked (as a nurse) with AIDS patients, art therapy was a strong component of care. That was in the early days of the epidemic before there was much in the way of medication to offer hope. I hope you will post a photo of your sculpture! I can't post using my wordpress blog so this is my defunct Google blog.
